Trailer tire question
the tires on my rockwood are ready for replacement (st205/75r14)
would like to buy best tire avail @ this size. safety is first priority.
looked @ KUMHO st205/80r14 but worry about clearance between axles (tandem) its 2" now

Why not go to a 195, they are about the same diameter as you have now?

I'm about to order 5 of the 195-82R14Ds for my rig. The Maypop ChinaBombs are lookin a little ratty, and I've already replaced one of them...

We just replaced all the tires on the 2000 Springdale we got over the summer ( Same Size ). I decided on Loadstar bias tires. The price was good and it was the same tire the trailer came with, they were horrible condition, but had lasted since it was new. I know there are better tires out there,but this project has to have a budget.
My only regret is i wish i had gone up to 15 inch rims and tires,

Go with Goodyear or Maxxis. Both should serve you well. You will get the best price from "Onlinetires" in Calif. The diff in price is amazing. Having them mounter locally should not be a problem.

I have China Goodyears and will get Maxxis when the time comes. A TPMS for the TT is a good idea.

Have you had problems with the Goodyears? My understanding is that the quality control issues affecting these tires has been improved.

No problems with tires. Not enough miles or heat yet. I am not expecting any problems but I have a TPMS to warn me before there is real damage.

I had Goodyear Marathons on my last boat trailer. I was beside the road with bad tires twice in a year. Not flats, but thrown treads, both times... Kumho or Maxxis for me. I haven't ordered the Kumhos yet but I am leaning that way.

Our old trailer had 14" tires and the only Load Range D (65 psi) tires I could find besides the Kuhmo's were Kendra Karriers marketed by Martin Wheel, and sold by Northern Tool (among others). We ended up with the Kendra's because the Kumho's were out of stock, but they were nice heavy tires (compared to the Load Range C's) that came off, and held up fine for 15,000 miles before we traded the trailer. Just make sure your wheels are rated for the higher pressure and load.
