Travel Trailer anti-theft devices/security
I will be picking up my new trailer in a few days, and have security questions for y'all. Please do not bring up guns, for two reasons: I am an ex-LEO, and it will get the thread shut down.
I want to know what people do to keep their travel trailer from getting stolen when they aren't around. I know I can get a hitch block/lock, and a wheel immobilizer, but do those work or are they just gimmicks?
How about the generators at night when you are around?

As a former LEO you know that what ever is worth money, people will steal. A solid hitch lock will slow down a thief from towing it off, but anyone with a tow truck could still take it. The door and compartment locks on most all RV's use the same key, my key will probably unlock your new trailer. Store it in a secure facility and have insurance on it. You could buy all sorts of sophisticated locks and alarms, but just has large corporations and the government have learned about computer security, if it's worth money, people will steal it.

Any knowledge of a good wheel immobilizer anyone? Might as well slow down the tow truck, too.

How about several of these with thick steel cable going through the wheels? I think a thief would go on to an easier target.

Steel cables can be cut, a trailer with a wheel immobilizer can still be winched onto a flatbed tow truck, and even a sign like below would be ignored.

Take the wheels off for longterm storage. A good lock for short term storage. And while caming, if we go out... I leave two Doberman's inside.
But the best is secure storage and insurance. If you can't keep it at home, make sure the place has gates and cctv.

I guess I should let folks now I'll be boondocking most of the time. I'm not overly concerned about someone breaking in, but I am very concerned about coming back from fishing or a hike to find it simply gone.

A hitch lock that fills the ball location along with a latch lock will slow down and possibly make a thief look elsewhere. Works for me so far. A cable through the rim holes and leaf springs on one side not seen till attempted drive away may make for a noisy attention getter. Thieves do not like attention, and may stop their attempt to steal realizing what you have done to protect your property.
A GPS tracking and recovery device on board sticker may work too.

to take my trailer you have to remove the x chocks on both wheels, remove the double wrapped tarps from the hitch and then connect a battery to lower it unless you have the bar, raise the stabs and navigate into a very small spot to hook up to a Hensley arrow if you have the stinger. oh, did I mention you have to get past the gate of the storage facility that has cameras everywhere?

Boondocking, my security measures are a hitch lock, and older not-so-pretty trailer, and... insurance on the trailer. No security measure is perfect, so I don't leave anything I'd really miss in the trailer. I lock it but realize anyone with a big screwdriver could probably get inside in 5 seconds.

if, as you say, are a former LEO, then you are all too well aware that if a thief wants something, it will be stolen. What you need to do is to make it as inconvenient as possible, convincing him that there are better pickings elsewhere. Hitch locks, cables through wheels (and a 1/2" winch strength cable is NOT easily cut with normal bolt cutters), BAL type chocks, wheel lug locks will all slow him down to the point of thinking "Is it worth that extra time element". Then there is the other way, minimal security, if he wants it, he can have it and let the insurance you pay so dearly for to own this 'toy' take care of it. With that line of thinking, just don't leave your family heirlooms in it if you aren't there. With our 5er, there isn't a thing I would miss even though it does have some higher level 'gadgets'
