I'm on the verge of buying a small generator. I'd like to know if it is safe for me to carry gas in a proper container (made for gas) in something like an egg crate bungeed to keep in one place. My truck bed is covered. Also, would I need to dispose of gasoline in the generator before traveling with it? Thanks for any advice or suggestions. Your help will be most appreciated.

No worries, you can carry the gas as described. Just make sure it wont flip over and spill. Same for the generator.

The top-of-the-line gasoline safety can is made by Eagle Manufacturing Company. Their 2 G size would work for your requirements.Their safety cans are expensive ( I paid $60 for mine, 10 years ago) because they are the best available. I have a 5 G size I carry for my Boliy 3600 genset. They will not leak when overturned, self-closing, flame-arrester in both openings, it's all in the website.

Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions and advice. I ordered the Eagle 2 Gal size and my son is going to help me with a way to secure it in the bed of the truck.
