TT Opinions

After about a year of "looking" at TT's, the wife and I have finally found one we are going to buy to replace our current one.

2016 Coachmen Catalina 243RBS. It was narrowed down to that or the Keystone Hideout 26RLS. I was for the Coachmen right off the bat, but my wife and I did like the recliners in the Hideout.

We both kept coming back to the Coachmen because of the higher quality interior, better kitchen layout, nicer bathroom, and the electric fireplace. 2 feet and 2 recliners just didn't make up the difference.

Anyone have any experience with this specific model? Comments on new Coachmen in general?

Thanks!

Doug,
I cant comment on that specific model, but I know the Keystone units receive higher ratings overall in most categories. I searched and researched exhaustively for about 6 months, and learned quite a bit about different general categories, and Keystone won in all of them including customer service, actual build quality, and customer ratings, etc.

Sorry I can't be more specific...

I have a Catalina 303RLS and love it. I have only had one thing I changed. The shower door needed to swing the other way. No other issues have come up. We traveled 1600 miles and spent 21 days camping.

Construction quality and materials are substandard on Keystone products. Many friends bought a Keystone as their first trailer because of the flash. The quality issues surfaced and they all traded before 2 years. My younger brother got caught up in the supposed bling and would up being very disappointed in the particle board construction.
Research quality construction first. The problem is that all brands cut too many corners to meet price points. We suffer for not being willing to pay for quality products.

We have a 2014 253RKS bought new October 2013. It's all of 5" longer than yours but a much different floor plan.
I can tell you we love ours. It doesn't have a lot of flash, but it is solid and comfortable. We haven't had any problems in over 3000 miles of towing. Don't get me wrong, it's not a high end unit by any stretch, but it seems intelligently built with emphasis on the important stuff.
We also have a Keystone Summerland Mini for quick getaways. It is very much an entry level, unit that requires much more labor to maintain, in spite of being 8' shorter.

We looked at the 253RKS also! I liked it a lot, but there were a few things that my wife didn't. Glad to hear it's been trouble free! That's very reassuring.

I'm willing to trade off the bling and flash for better quality. If you could see our fleet of vehicles, you'd understand!
