Using Eternabond Tape as Preventive Maintenance

All of my roof seals are in good shape, no issues at all. Any thoughts about applying eternabond tape over perfectly good seals as a preventive measure?

I am considering doing a thorough wash at the end of the season and following that with an application of the tape. Thoughts on this?

rpierrie,
That' a darn good question you pose--I waited until it looked as tho it was needed, wish I had done it earlier.
It will be there a long time, so be sure and spend a lot of effort removing any suspect caulking and cleaning VERY well according to Eternabond directions. Also, my first efforts were without the use of a roller--looked very amateurish; got a wallpaper roller for the next work and it looks much better. Also, takes a lot of care going over the edge of the caps--wrinkles will be a problem.

What you propose is the best way to use Eternabond. By covering the existing sealant with Eternabond you keep it from getting weathered. The original sealant then stays in great shape, giving you a double seal.

Regarding roller, is one of the lighter weight, plastic ones OK; or would one of the heavier, rubber ones be worth the money?

I just used the small wooden one my wife uses to hang wallpaper and smoothe the seams. I would think any type of roller will work, but I think smaller works better--there will be areas that a large roller will not get to correctly.
This will end up being a really nice permanent seal, that is why it is very important to have the roof/seam area very clean before starting. Go to the Eternabond website and look at the videos if you haven't already. 'Course, everything they show/do is by experts and it ain't as easy as it looks, beginning with just cutting the roll to length needed.
The top of the roof is seldom seen by anyone but yourself, but coming around the corners can look ugly if not done patiently and carefully.
Good luck.
Joe
