Hi, all,

My fiance and I are in the process of cleaning up and preparing to sell his 1989 29' Aluma-lite XL trailer. He paid $10,000 for it seven years ago and wants to ask $3000, but I want to get a more accurate idea of its worth before we put a price tag on it. However, NADA guides only go back as far as 1990 (online, anyway).

Does anyone know how I can determine the value of this trailer? Thanks!

Every year it loses value due to depreciation.Dealers usually figure -8% of the previous year. That isnt the law,but just a guideline. If its worth $1000 this year, next year its worth $920.00 .How was that? I would look at the differant years for your model in the NADA guide and figure what the percentage is on average.

Another way to approach this would be to list it for the $3,000 and then say "or best offer". It doesn't really matter what the asking price is - what really matters is what someone is willing to pay, regardless of what the current owner thinks it is worth. I just sold my 1996 TT. I listed it for a little more than NADA retail value. It sold in 2 hours, no dickering. Perhaps I should have been asking for more?
