Water heater keeps quitting! Keystone Passport

Our water heater quit on us the second day of use; last December. They installed a new motherboard. It worked a few times on our trip in April.

Then, we were dry camping in July and it worked for one night. They gave us a new motherboard which my husband installed- it was "new and improved".
It worked for 7 nights on electric for two short trips.

We just returned (and cut short) from a 12 night trip in which it worked the first 6 nights on electric. Then we needed to dry camp and it started making noises and stopped later that night. Then we drove to our next destination (dry camping) and we could not get it to work. The "Fault" light would only go on.
We were very grateful for our gas stove and teakettle and there were showers at the campground.

My husband discovered there was a blown fuse. So, we found an auto parts store in Jasper, Alberta and he replaced it. It blew again.

This is a Dometic water heater. Please share your experiences and how you corrected this problem. We are fortunate to have used our trailer quite a bit before the warranty is up. Our neighbor used to sell RV's and he said that there is an instant tankless water heater out there that is great and it is NOT a Dometic or Atwood.

Thank you in advance! We would like some leverage and feel that Keystone needs to make this right.

What year/make/model?

I have a 2019 Passport GT 2950BH that just had its circuit board replaced. Like you it quit working on gas after a couple outings. Hopefully it will stay fixed but I'm glad to have my "Forever Warranty" in this case...

It sounds like the 120V AC shore powered heating element in the water heater works correctly. You most likely have an older model that sends power to this heating element via a separate switch and the circuit board HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE 120v ELECTRIC HEATING ELEMENT.

The circuit board only controls the gas heat side of the water heater. Newer Dometic (they took over Atwood some time back) have the circuit board controlling both the gas side and the 120V AC element of the heater (via a relay).

These circuit boards are a known issue on some models and it may be best to make a call to Dinosaur Electronics. They manufacture a "universal" electric ignition board that will work on the Atwood water heaters. These are know to be very good products as they design the boards to correct issues that the OEM boards have.

I had a combination gas/electric unit in my Winnebago View Motor Home and never had a moments problem with it.

It does not work on electric anymore. The red "fault" light goes on.

During assembly, a screw went through a wire which kept shorting it out. The motherboards kept getting fried. Now the wires are fixed and we have our 4th motherboard.
