I just used my trailer the first time this weekend and when I disconnected the freshwater hose it dawned on me that it wouldn't be totally dry when I put it up. How do you guys prevent mold in the freshwater hose? Blow it out with compressed air? Run a little bleach down it? Your suggestions would be most helpful.

Un hook your hose from the hose bib and r/v,drain the water out of the hose, coil the hose and connect the ends together. Next time you use the hose flush it out with fresh water before you hook it into your r/v. Never was concerned about that.

I drain the hose, but since I full time mold never has time to build up.

Before I started full timing I would use my fresh water hose to do the first fill of the season.. Here is how

I started by filling the tank about 1/3 to 1/2 full.. then I hooked up the blow out adapter to the hose and fed it some compressed air courtesy of my compressor.. Blowing the hose clear (Note it's over 50 feet from house to rig so I have to use ALL my hoses)

Then I'd dump in 5/4 of a cup of bleach (Rig holds 80 gallons) hook back up to water and finish filling

that's 5/4 cup of pure bleach

Mold gone

Thanks for your replies. I will hook the hose ends together and try the bleach to. My tank only holds 10 gallons so I will have to figure out how much bleach I need.

qwerty, the EPA standard for sanitizing\disinfection is 200 ppm. Keep in mind ordinary laundry bleach is 5.5% - 6%, depending on brand. This may be useful:http://www.rvtechlibrary.com/plumbing/sanitizing.htm
