Trailer is very simply too heavy. Do math first, buy RV second.

(Mod Edit)

I've done the math. Dry trailer is still under my max tow capacity. Loaded, I'm sure I'd go over if I'm taking a weeks worth of supplies. A cooler of ice and a change of clothes for the weekend isn't going to throw me over the GVWR.

Am I pushing the limits of my tow capacity? Yes.
Do I understand that I'm pushing my limits? Yes.
Do I plan to take it across country? No.
Are there mountains in Texas? Not in my area.

(Mod Edit)

Thank you for the safety advice, I realize what I'm getting into.

See you down the road. (Mod Edit)

We'll buy it, and pull it to a few local campgrounds on the beach, and State Parks. We'll pay it off in the next 12 months and if it ends up being too much trailer for the truck, then next summer we'll trade it in on a something newer and lighter. We'll take it easy, drive slowly, and see how we like the TT lifestyle.

Whats the worse that can happen? We buy a trailer thats just a little too heavy, and then sell it for $2K more than we paid for it.

I think for the condition, the price, and the way we will be using it, it's a good introduction to the lifestyle.
That's exactly what I would do.
