What is it like to living full time in a vintage travel trailer?

Vintage 1971 Shasta Camper Trailer 16Ft in RVs & Campers | eBay Motors

Not saying I am buying this one, still early looking but using this as an example of what I want to buy, are there any unique problems to Living full time in a travel trailer like this? advantages as well? I want to have a tv, computer, internet as well.

I'd prefer to get a vintage one for the style.

Some on here will find it funny that you think vintage is something from the 70's!

The downside to anything older for full time use is -

They were never designed for that kind of use, so the materials reflect that
They are chock full of old technologies

So if you plan is to buy and fix it up, replace some system, then it's probably fine, but could be alot of work. Also, that is a very small space to be living, so my primary concern would be if you could make such a small rig work for full time living.

You came to the right place to find out.

If you cruise the fulltimer section you should find much of what you need.

We have met folks fulltiming in rigs as small as a 10 foot truck camper. And we spent summers in a 16 with 4 peeps when we were in our 30s

In '79 a bunch of us GIs got tossed out of our dorm at college (the schoold decided that the psych dept needed the space) and I wound up full timing in my fathers '68 Airstream. It was pretty comfortable for me, a 26' trailer and me being single with a cat. I was in Spokane and survived for two years in that trailer. Weaknesses are insulation, ventilation in winter, and space. You can survive and even thrive if you have the mind for small spaces.

Compaired to my room in the barracks, the tailer was pure luxury.

Many RVs from that era had a ice box only.
Hand pump water.
Sinks plumbed to a garden hose hook up to drain outside
No black tanks.
No 110v outlets
No ovens.
No A/C.
No central heat unit.
No water heater.

Check to make sure it has the accessories and appliances you expect

That all depends on you. It can be done for sure but, only if your up to it.

I have friends that would love to have something just like that for weekend camping. But, the price is much too high.

You must not have clicked on the link. It has all of the above ,except, a A/C. That can usually be fixed with a wall unit.

My daughter and I and a puppy, are on our second winter here in Montana. We have a 71 THUN and is 19x7 but 16 x 7 inide. We have TV and we are on WI FI with local Campground. Yes there are pros and con.

Finding parts is not as easy. Some things are replaceable with new stuff some are not. Need to make sure the roof is well sealed to prevent leaks.

I think the older ones were built more solid and with long term in mind. Some newer models are not as solid and thus do not hold up well to long term living.

The other major downside to the older models is that many campgrounds will not allow them. It has to do with the amps. Ours is roomy inside and bright. I do not care for the darm interiors.
