Repacking the wheel bearing for the first time on our new TT and while cleaning the old gsease out of the Hub i notice the outer bearing race was turning in the hub, it looks fine, no cracks, just never seen a race spin inside the hub before ?????? Opinions please .

The race should be a press fit and not turn.

Probably going to need a new hub. They are pretty cheap. I usually carry a spare hub with bearings already greased and seal installed just in case. Much simpler to change on the side of the road if needed.
There is a chance that the race is slightly too small but doubtful. You will need to have the hub measured with an inside mic to know for sure. Easier to just swap it out and have it checked later. Etrailer has the whole hub and drum with bearings and seals for about $50.

Had that happen on a small trailer many years ago. I wrapped the race in thin shim stock which made it a very snug resistant fit. Used the trailer many times after that and even repacked the bearings once. The race never moved after that fix.

Another way is to "peen" the area the race fits into with a center punch. I've done that before, and it works if the wear isn't too much, but nothing's as good as a new hub.

I agree ,must have done this a hundred times on spindles and inner race bores.
I have also used a product called bearing mount a product made by LOCTITE.
But still peen it in a few places.

When you peen it, you make small raised dimples in the steel around the strike point, that seem to tighten it up.
Next time you pull it apart it will be loose again. In not convinced it lasts very long after you first do it.
The fix is a new hub.

Heavy peening works....just freeze the race before installing....

Other than replacing, this is the best fix. We used to call it a "Farmer" fix. Works well.

Checked a second drum today and it's fine . Been researching Loctite products, looks like there #638 is perfect for this. My thought now is order a new race, or bearing set, and set it with this ????

New cup and cone along with seal are not very pricey, and will give you peace of mind. Just like new again.
Happy Glamping.

Yes use that product and it will never turn in the bore. Next time you need to remove the race it will come out. I use loctite bearing mount on trailers they seem to be troublesome, not sure why but they are.
Maybe because of the size and weight and the heat etc.
