Winegard TV Antenna

Hello All

Thought i had posted this earlier but !!!! This is the antenna that came with our 2000 Keystone Springdale, i now it must be directional because you can turn it from inside the TT. Question is, if it's directional, how to you know the dirction it's pointed ?

When we got the trailer all of it was frozen from non-use, but all is free and moivg now.

Thanks Jim

In your picture, it is pointed to the right.

(inside the coach) On the wheel that turns inside there is a larger pointer arrow that needs to line up with a corresponding arrow (point) on the stationary ring before lowering. On ours it points rearward to lower.

An alternative to trial and error for getting channels is to get a signal strength meter and/or internet maps showing tv towers for direction to point.

We find the trial and error method works for us by noting the number of scanned channels found on the flat screens then rotate the antenna 1/4 turn and try again.

More info:
Now that you're getting it to work, here's how to find the TV stations:
AntennaPoint.com - Antenna Locator
The Digital TV Transition: Reception Maps
All stations are digital, so make sure you have an analog to digital converter.
Last, there is this 'Wingman' easy to install addition that really boosts reception:
Winegard Wingman Antenna - Optimize Your Sensar (Batwing) for DTV! - YouTube
Winegard GS-WING Wingman Sensar TV Antenna Upgrade (GS-WING) from Solid Signal
Winegard Wingman for Sensar UHF/VHF improvement - $21.59

As photographed it is bi-directional.. That is the pattern is a figure eight.

This is the pattern O|O more or less (Ok that is representive, and not the actual pattern) the main lobes are off the sides of the antenna (the Pipe symbol (|) represents the antenna)

Add the wingman and you get VHF as above but UHF is like this

T
O

(As you can see I turned it 90 degrees)

This is usually 90 degrees counterclockwise of the arrow on the dial.

i use a program on my phone called "TV Antenna Helper". It uses your current GPS position to determine all the nearest stations. Then you can choose which stations you like the most and it will tell you the most optimised direction to point the antenna. It also uses your phones compass to help you with that.

As state, on the handle you pull down and rotate, there is an arrow. That arrow shows the plane it is pointed on. That arrow also shows what direction it points to lay it down.

I have a Winegard ant on my new TT that is fixed in one position. No up or down. Mounted lengthwise with the TT. It is powered. Is it going to work at all out of town, do I have to move the TT?

If it's a directional antenna, i'd move the trailer.

I must disagree, because the inside arrow on my Sensar points toward the side of the antenna array...which, yes, is the direction that the Sensar folds flat. In my case and many other RV's, it folds down toward the rear.

Like burfurd wrote, the direction of "aim" is to the right in your picture...but also the far left. It is 90 degrees off of that inside arrow because the wing of the antenna catches the TV signal like the wings of a bird catch the wind...but it doesn't matter 90 left or 90 right...unless...

...if you add the Winegard Wingman (like in the video posted above) then the "aim" will be with the Wingman pointing at the TV station's transmitter.

Safe travels

I just tried the AntennaPoint.com one and I'm sorry to say it doesn't work in my rural area. It keep telling me there is no transmitter within 200 miles and I know that is wrong. It also doesn't tell of the rebroadcast signals in my area. It may work if your in a big city I suppose but, it doesn't work here.

The other link kind of works but, it also doesn't pick up the rebroadcast stations and it doesn't show directions.

Highway,

Your antenna is supposedly omni-directional.
See:https://recreationnation.me/main/con...v-uhfvhf-white.

Ours "seems" to be working pretty well but without anything to compare to one does not really know.

Bob
