Winterizing water line behind city water inlet

How do you get antifreeze into the water line behind the city water inlet, without causing the o-ring to come off the plunger in the city water inlet check valve?

I use the trailer water pump to winterize. I manually depress the check valve plunger to get antifreeze into the line. Last year I must've had to much pressure in the line when I did this because the o-ring came off.

Why not just use a fitting that screws into the water inlet and use a compressor to blow the water out?

There is a cheap hand pump made just for that purpose. You can also use it to make sure that a tank flusher is protected.

I had a rv store winterize the first time (in 2012). They didn't use an air compressor. The water was pushed out by the antifreeze. I could buy a fitting and compressor, but the last 3 years I've done it myself the way the rv store did and haven't had a problem.

Since you're only talking about one short section of water line, if you buy the fitting you could use a bicycle tire pump to push the water out of that short section of water line. Or, you could buy the pump lynnmor suggested, although he didn't provide a link. Another idea would be to hook a beer bong up to a short section of garden hose and pour the antifreeze in the water inlet, then after a careful rinsing, you'd have a recreational toy for campfires.

The water pump causes too much pressure, so turn it off and open a faucet to release the pressure.
Then push the valve open at the inlet and have a helper click on the waterpump.
Works every time and I don't blow out the o-ring anymore.

I did it the way you suggested and it worked like a charm. Thanks.
