So the dropcam is like a laptop or other computer connected to the wifi and it has its own IP address already then!! I get it!!!

Yes that is correct, it doesnt need anything but the wifi access. You can configure it with the app or if you have a computer you can do it from there. You have to create an account which is free. They also have a service you can subscribe to to store footage is you wanted it. People who use it for security probably do that. No obligation though. I think I paid about $200 for mine.

I have the Dropcam installed and working beautifully!!!! So happy! Now I just have to hope WiFi is good signal at the Jamaica Beach RV park in Galveston

I use a dropcam at home aimed at the dog crate so I can check in on her. I can also talk to her on it. Very simple easy device and intuitive ap.

I also had an iBall from our previous TV that didn't have a backup camera. It functioned. The part that plugged into the 12v outlet in the truck was flimsy, you can't turn it by the silver parts or the black plastic will crack open.

But it did, indeed, allow me to hitch up alone.
