AE 9100 Awning Motor Replacement

The awning is currently closed but just prior to closing, started acting erratic. The last movement was to the closed position (lucky me since I was at a campground and had to travel the next day). Now that I am home, I would like to diagnose whether the problem is the motor or control board. In order to do that, I have been told that I must unplug the motor and connect 12 volts to it to determine whether it will move. Here's the problem....I cannot determine how to get to the motor (wires) with the awning closed. Any suggestions?

Also, does anyone have a copy of the replacement instructions that comes with a new awning motor? If so, could I please get a copy.
Thanks
Jim

Jim, let me recommend this video to you. It covers the awning material replacement, but I think you'll find some information that will help you. This is a really good tutorial:

Thanks USMCRET, the video is very helpful in replacing the motor. Now I merely need to figure out how to pull the awning out about a foot to allow the change. Thanks again, Jim

Jim, if you're still trying to figure this out, I found some more info that may help. I've attached the diagnostic service manual. If you go to paragraph 7.1 on page 10, it talks about emergency retract procedure. There is mention of a bolt at the top of the forward arm that needs to be removed. I would think that removing that bolt would also allow you to do what you need to do. I found that bolt on mine and it is a phillips head. There may be some effect on spring tension, so read thru that thoroughly.

USMCRET - Thanks for all of the information. I believe the info supplied enough that I plan to tackle the project tomorrow. Thanks again
