I just heard of an inside cover that reduces inside noise by 50% put out by Classic Coach. This is a link to it Classic Coach Works — A/C Cover - We specialize in coach customization, conversion and upgrades for Motor Homes, RVs, Recreational Vehicles, and Buses .

Has anybody tried it or heard of anybody that has ?

I don't have any experience, but I am also interested to hear if anyone else has. If no one has a report, we will be near Lakeland where Classic Coach Works is located this winter, so we will be interested in checking it out. Maybe they have a demo unit.

Most RVs with roof AC units have ducted outlets, which greatly reduces noise, but the inlet is not ducted. I assume the cover has a couple of baffles inside, so in theory, it will help muffle the sound without adding significant flow resistance.

The thing I will miss is the ability to slide over the lever to " dump" for a quick cool down. I will also miss the $299.00 plus tax for each( LOL )

Not a waffle Baffle....It's an engineered material pad

Not much depth to allow baffles.I'll bet it's a sound-attenuation material such as found here:
Boat noise attenuation vapor barrier foam Engine Room insulation Soundproofing

I’ll bet it’s simply a marine product used to deaden motor sounds. The product is a composite built-up panel made for engine rooms and bulkheads. A one inch thick pad covered in leatherette ceiling finish and four button-covered screws [from the picture].Would run $15 for a 18x18 portion of 1" material [you would have to split costs from a larger order].

I would think it holds clear of the ceiling by ¾” or so allowing the return-air [on my Dometic model] a return route into the rooftop unit. That means it's 1-3/4" drop from ceiling height.

The link doesn't work for me but we have one, we got it from Classic Coach, the one we have is wood covered in vinyl to match our ceiling. It looks fine.
It does reduce the noise, I don't remember what we paid for it but it it wasn't cheap.

They still show the a/c noise buffer in the slide show on the Ceilings page
Classic Coach Works — Ceilings - We specialize in coach customization, conversion and upgrades for Motor Homes, RVs, Recreational Vehicles, and Buses

Nothing at Classic Coach is cheap. They got $10k out of me for work I could have had done for half that price in Indiana cabinet shops.

Wonder if one can be made from a section of acoustic ceiling tile? Another DIY project!
