Has anyone had a Yakima Holdup bike rack and if so, does it allow the Jeep Wrangler rear door to fully open? We are looking for something foldable and hitch mounted that will work on our toad.

We don't have a hitched mount but ours fits over the spare tire and folds. We bought it on Amazon. Hollywood Racks SR1 spare tire rack - fits two bikes.

I donít believe that is a hitch mount available that will allow you to open the rear door. I have seen some spare tire mounts that will.

I had considered the Hollywood SR2, but was unsure how strong it would be and if the bikes would wobble.

Another Jeep Bike Rack Question

My Thule rack drops down a few extra inches after you pull a pin that will allow the gate to open without the bikes on! I have also seen racks that pivot out with the bikes on the rack to clear an SUV rear hatch.

I have a quadratech 2 bike rack that folds down with the bikes on it to allow you to open the door, it also has an additional hole in the mount so you can use it with large spare tire, it also tightens up so the bikes don't move on rough roads. I purchased it from quadratech jeep parts.

We have been all over the country with ours - had it for 8 years. Well, we are on the second one because we sold the other jeep and forgot to take it off. The bikes do rub against each other from time to time and we use the pool noodles to cushion in some places.

Is your rack the Hollywood SR2?

Okay That seals the deal for me. The Hollywood SR2 works and is half the price of a Yakima. Thanks group

1UpUSA rack will index downward. Gate swings clear with bikes are off...which is all I care about. I hate to have to completely remove the rack just to access the rear storage.

Yes, I looked at the 1UpUSA rack and it is very well made and we would spend the extra $ for it if our bikes were nicer. My wife and I have have had the same Gary Fisher bikes since our marriage (45 years) and they have more sentimental value then newer ones.

We use the Hold Up with our Grand Cherokee. We don't have a spare tire on the exterior of our Jeep as you do. But we used this same rack on our prior Honda CRV which did have an exterior spare and it worked great. When unloaded the Hold Up will swing down to get out of the way of rear hatches. We certainly like ours and like how securely that it holds the bikes. The additional internal locking cables are a nice feature also.
