This might be a given for most people, not to buy something like this at a discount store, but for many of us on a budget, we might be tempted to buy the $6 white hose at big lots marked for boat/RV use and safe for drinking water on the front of the package.

BUT BEWARE! Upon close inspection of the BACK of the package, in small print, it states that "this garden hose is NOT safe for drinking water use" ("NOT is in caps and BOLD!) and goes on to say that it contains chemicals known in the state of CA to cause cancer.

So... there you have it. A hose's package that says it's safe for drinking water on one side and on the other says it's not. The clerk whom I pointed it out to was like "yeah, so?" and I said "well, i thought I should point that out to you." and she replies "well, do you want it?" and I replied "no! it causes cancer! it's not safe for drinking water!" and the customers behind me in line (yes, I waited in line to tell them this) burst out laughing at the idea of the clerk asking me if I still wanted to buy a cancer-causing hose that says it's safe and not safe at the same time.

I predict a future lawsuit with Big Lots and/or the company who actually makes it...

Well, Big Lots does have some good stuff. Their repackaged Duracell Ultra AA 8-packs for $4 are a great deal. They very noticeabley last longer than Wal-Mart bought normal Duracell batteries (which cost more than $4 for 8!) in my Kodak digital camera. They have some good food buys sometimes as well.

Yep, which is why I pointed out this specific product. I wouldn't even have noticed the warning on the back of it if not for wanting to check out the "7 year warrenty" they lay claim to on the front of the package.

Well I bought some of those hoses and have been using them for 7+ years. I didn't read the back of them. So the warranty is as claimed.I haven't had cancer,of course I've not been to California.

The meaning behind those warning labels is that California is the only state that will openly and publically admit that certain products contain traces of lead. The other 49 would rather have the public not know.

I'm surprized I don't take in a warning label when I breath here in California .

California has found that life in general causes cancer. I wouldnt worry about drinking water from that hose. I've seen that same warning about Ca. and cancer on many products.

Everyone planning to get out of this world ALIVE, Raise Your Hand!

It's hard to pay attention to this, or that causes, this or that (Huh!, that's what I said), Huh) . A new study said it does this, a year or two later, it doesn't do this and is good for that.

Kind of reminds me of Brown side out, nope, hold it, Green side out, wait, no, it's Brown side out! Some may recall these days.

I really pay a lot of attention to anything that comes out of California!

I pay almost as much attention those things that come from Government Studies!

Sorry, just couldn't resist!

Hmmm....I wonder why California hasn't identified dihydrogen monoxide (DHMO) (aka hydrogen hydroxide) as a life-threatening substance. Perhaps the DHMO lobby has the California governmental regulatory agencies in its pocket!!

The warning means it contains traces of lead and we all know what lead poisoning can cause..
