back up camera three year review
my first back up camera was from Rear View. It replaced the Sony which had become defective. I found the product a little more expensive than others but felt it appeared to be a higher quality and had good reviews. The install was straight forward and I used the existing wire to feed the signal. I did not use the audio however as I found it not of much use with the Sony. Rear engine makes a lot of noise.
about three years later I need another back up system for my 26 foot trailer. I wanted to have another monitor too. I would allow me to see traffic approaching the trailer and then monitor the passing with the MH rear camera. Also I felt it would be good to see how much angle I had on the trailer when backing so as to not crush the MH and trailer together.
For the second back up system I thought I'd save some money and purchased the Esky 7-Inch TFT LCD Color Monitor Car Backup Rear View. It was simple to install and I used cat6 in the trailer. Twisted pair works pretty well for these applications. The camera and monitor have been installed for about three years now and finally the monitor bit the dust. there was a little inline power supply package labeled filter and fuse and it got very hot and NO SIGNAL appeared on the screen. There was no fuse found in the little box. I decided to check the camera and ran the esky camera to the original "Rear View" monitor and all looks good. The Esky monitor was removed and trashed. The plastic on the case was beginning to oxidize and get tack (sticky).
IMHO Spend your money wisely and get the best you can afford. I could have afforded the Rear VIew but guess I felt it was good enough. Well the Esky is good enough for the trash can.
