Has anyone used the "Dirty Blind Man's" Day/Night shade repair kit? I have two that need to be re-done.

Scottsdale,
Haven't used the kits as they are relatively new, but have gotten many assorted parts & string from the Dirty Blind Man, before he brought the kits out. Service has always been great and fast, everything fit and worked.
Don't think you could go wrong on the kits.
Best,

If you use the Find or Search function for Day Night Shades there are over 200 replies which includes the "how to" replace the defective or broken strings.

Fantastic kit. I have repaired 3 blinds with the $20.00 kit and have parts for more.
If you have trouble - you can phone him and he will help.
It is the cheapest way to buy the parts as most stores charge a fortune per piece.
You can repair your blinds but be prepared to spend 1 - 2hours on the first one (learning curve). Use the kitchen table.
Good luck.

I purchased the correct size string from a local blind repair store. Using http://www.winnebagoind.com/resource...t%20Blinds.pdf
I re-strung (is that a word?) my first day/night shade in about 30 minutes. I have read of some folks using fishing line instead of string. Correct size is very important to avoid wearing out the plastic string guides.

Great kit and great service from the Dirty Blind Man. When I ordered my kit I did not order the correct color string. When I called he told me he would send out another kit free of charge and to just keep the other kit.

Warning, when I took my blinds apart to re string them , I found there were missing grommets causing the string to drag over the aluminum and wear it out also some of the grommets were on the wrong side of the aluminum which rendered them useless. Just look it over as you re string for those conditions.
I also have used the kits and they are GREAT !

Check the bottom of your day-night shades and you should find a sticker of the manufacturer. Look them up on the Internet. I did and they sent 3 kits free!

The instructions are on line all over the place
The kit consists basically of a length of shash cord, I am looking for suppliers but I expect to find it at a decent fabric store. It is not a rare item. I've used twine but that's a short tem solution.

We have used this on our shades. His instructions and the video were very easy to follow.

Yes, I have used the kit. The Dirty Blind Man (DBM) claims the string he supplies is superior to what you can get at the local blind store. Time will tell, but I can say the DBM kit comes with everything you need if you find broken/missing parts during your repair, except the caps that are supposed to be installed on the ends of the bar that separates the day shade from the night which, because they were missing, caused my problem in the first place. Not DBM's problem since there are too many varieties out there to expect DBM to supply spares for them all.
Absolutely worth the money for the kit, though I thought the shipping/handling charge was a bit much considering the $4.95 Priority Mail envelope it came in. Took a bit longer than I expected to get it too, considering the Priority Mail
So, go on and explore your inner blind repair skills. Just be sure to wash your hand after.
Steve
BTW, there is enough string to do 2 blinds if you order the appropriate package (2 string, 4 string, etc..
