I must replace the two Interstate SRM-24 batteries in my motorhome. From what I have read on irv2 Trojan batteries are the preferred choice. I am considering two Trojan T105 6 VDC batteries. Has anyone used these units? If so where did you buy them and at what cost? I am in the Burlington, ON area, but will be willing to travel within a 100 km radius.
Any input would be appreciated

Ron, I have used the Trojan T105's and about 7 years ago I paid $60 for each at Batteries Plus. Be sure to install these in series to each other. You SRM 24's were 12 volt batteries and wired in parallel. Good luck and take care.

We have had two T-105's for about four years now and are very satisfied with them. I contacted a local golf course and asked to talk to the guy that maintains their fleet of golf carts. I them asked him where they got their trojan batteries from. He gave me the name of a golf cart service center in San Antonio. I called them, verified they had two of the batteries, and went and bought them the next day for about $60 each new.

I have 4 of them in our rig (see sig) about 7 years old, so what ever I paid for them would be out of date by now.
As of a few years ago AZ would give a price? tax? break if they were bought from a solar equipment store, don't know if that type of program still in effect though.
If you are going to AZ and/or Quartzite this winter I would definitely check into it. I saw them for sale at the big "flee market" east of Yuma last winter as well as at Quartzite. As I remember it they were outside of the city limits and weren't required to charge sales tax. But I could be wrong.
T 105's weight about 62 # each, I would assume that if you have them shipped in to you that the shipping costs would cancel out any price savings.

I checked with Trojan Battery, on line, for a distributor in the Tampa market. The listed Posey Battery in Tampa. I called them and they had them in stock. I paid around $65.00 each. I also had them cut the new Cables and add the connectors for me. Brought my Battery box there also.

Trojan T105 (or T125) Golf Cart batteries are excellent - the industry standard, in fact. If properly maintained you can expect 6-7 years of useful life in an RV application.
GC batteries are a couple inches taller than your Group 24 size, so make sure you have room.
Lead prices are way up and so most battery prices have followed suit. Many dealers are getting over $100 per battery but if you shop carefully you may still get Trojans for around $65-$70. Golf cart dealers in southern climates are often the best source - they have to price against competitors.
Interstate also makes a golf cart battery and it is often available at the lower end of the price range. Don't know about the quality, but any GC battery will last longer than any "marine deep cycle" or other modified 12v starting battery design.
If you want totally maintenance free, get AGM golf cart batteries or AGM 12V deep cycles from Lifeline. Pricey though - figure upwards of $150 each. And unlike flooded (wet) cells, AGM batteries can also be used in unvented compartments.

My MH came w/ a pair of Trojans but I've never replaced them. I have had good service from golf cart batteries I bought at Sams Club. I don't recall the brand name but I used them over 6 yrs on a power boat cruiser.

Our 2000 Triple-E Commander came with two 12v Interstate batteries that failed within a year for one and just after a year for the other. When the first one failed I had it replaced for approx. $105 pro-rated. When the second one failed I junked the Interstate batteries and got 3 -12v Platinum 31DGM batteries. They cost $220 each and they are worth every penny. Still using them 5 yr. later.

Another option to consider if you have a tall battery compartment is Trojan's L16HC.
It has about the same footprint as the T105, but is about 6" taller and about twice the capacity (420 amp/hr vs 225).

On 6-volt batteries; battery failure??
We have two interstate 6 volt batteries connected in series. I estimate the batteries to to be 4-5 years old. I bought the RV (2002 vacationer) a few months ago. With the batteries fully charge and the coach in the garage (with no AC power, and no DC load except for the gas sensors), the batteries are dead within 18 days.
I am assuming the batteries are shot and I should get a new set? Any comments??
When I bought the coach, I did find that I had to add a lot of water to the batteries...perhaps they ran low on water and the continuous charging ruined them; any comments??
The trojans discussed on this thread seem a good product to buy vs a new set of interstates...again any comments,
Thanks, HEMI
