Most of the drain valve lube that I have seen contains coconut oil. I have often wondered if just coconut oil would provide all of the benefits but never found a source until last week. The oil is about half the price of the lube. Any thoughts on this subject?

Good question!

Perhaps someone with a chemical or lubrication background can chime in with their thoughts.

I drilled a small hole in end of fixture where rod slides in and out sprayed some silicone with one of those little red tubes put a small screw to plug hole works great

I own an Injection Molding company, We mold Thermoplastics and most valves that I have seen have been molded of ABS, I would stay away from any type of oil and use silicone. Oil can attack the ABS and cause problems later on. If the valve is molded of PVC then anything can be used. Hope this helps.
