At the start of the Autumn camping season and the cooler nights, I’ve always been dealing with the issue of condensation inside the RV. Overnight as the temperatures drop and the family sleeps, the moisture expelled from our breathing would accumulate inside the rig and form condensation on the motorhome windshield. Typically I’ve just cracked open the ceiling vents and allowed the warm moist air to vent, but it’s never completely effective and I always have some water on the windshield. In earlier campers without dual pane windows, the problem was even worse with all the side windows and frames being wet in the morning.

A couple years ago, I purchased a small dehumidifier for the camper and it worked pretty well at removing water, but the unit was just a little small for our size motorhome. A year or two after I purchased the small unit, EvaDry came out with their larger dehumidifier that I’ve been thinking about buying. Two weeks ago, I finally purchased the larger dehumidifier to take advantage of a free shipping offer.

The larger dehumidifier is 14” high compared to the smaller unit being 8-1/2 inches high and is rated to remove 20 ounces of water a day and holds 2 liters in the tank. Both dehumidifiers utilize a peltier cooling unit and a computer style cooling fan. The only noise the unit has is a gentle fan sound.

The dehumidifier sits nicely in our motorhome in two different locations. The first place I tried it was on the kitchen counter tucked back into a corner. I put the coffee pot next to it for a size reference when taking a picture.

Although the unit doesn’t look bad there, I decided to put it right behind the driver’s seat on the motorhome for its first use. Again, it’s not obtrusive, and being so quiet, doesn’t cause any noise issues or interfere with conversation or watching television. Another potential location would be the bathroom area to help with drying towels.

The performance of the unit is better than I expected. After a weekend of camping, the reservoir was about three quarters full which was probably a liter and a half of water. Although that doesn’t sound like much, that water would have been running down my windshield if the dehumidifier hadn’t been running. It was nice being able to drive off early on a cool morning without any condensation on the windshield.

I highly recommend the EDV-2200 Mid-Size Dehumidifier mid size dehumidifier for larger campers and would use the smaller Eva-Dry Petite Dehumidifier with Whisper Technology for smaller campers.

Both units now are showing free shipping online which is ideal for buying them just in time for Fall camping.

Great review, Joe, thanks! Nothing like FREE SHIPPING to make spending money more enticing, huh? I just might have to mosey on over to RVupgrades to see what else Bill has with FREE SHIPPING that I can't live without.

I just received a PM asking if the dehumidifier was worth the price it was listed at online and I realiezed I should have added that it is one of the items that rvupgrades makes you add it to your cart to see the lower price. It's worth doing it for the savings.

we have three of them for winter time
two pints and one quart
only failure so far was one fan over the last two seasons, which was a piece of pie to change

I use the smaller unit - we don't have that much humidity in Oregon and the smaller unit allows us to button up the rig at night and even with 2 dogs we don't have that much condensation on the windows in the morning --- nice addition to the rig.

We also are fighting humidity problems since we started working in the south. Wet dripping windshield, mold along the bottom of the few single panes we have and a musty smell in an overhead storage. Last year we used the AC to dehumidify but this year we hope not to use that option because of the noise and power consumption.
Looking on line we saw the Eva-Dry "Mini" that uses no electricity constantly and thought maybe two of these would be better then one large unit. Looks like the cost of two minis would be about the same a a large one but the large one actually is rated to cover more sq footage.
Any thoughts on this?

I am definitely going to consider this. I am tired of the noise of the standard dehumidifier(s) that we have been using.

Thanks for the good information.

What's the power consumption? The Peltier Effect is normally quite inefficient.
