Experiences with Onan Portable Gas Electric Generators?

While I was searching for something, I stumbled across an Inverter Generator that Onan is manufacturing, the P4500i.

It's a four stroke, gasoline powered inverter generator, rated at 3700watts continuous, 4200 watts peak and like the smaller 2000 watt units, can be paralleled.

Onan P4500i Spec Sheet

RV Parts Country has a demo video of one of these, but they never put it under any load, so the noise level measurements probably can be called into question.

From most of the places I've seen pre-ordering/backordering for this, its going for around a $1000, which is considerably less than comparable 4000 watt Hondas or Yamahas.

I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with Onan's already existing portable Inverter Generators and how their real world performance / quality holds up.

I have seen the westinghouse brand up close.... it was runing a fifth wheel with 2 13K ACs on.. kids had TV on and fridge was on electric,,,,,

She was running hard, owner toggled display to show 23 to 25 amps .. he said he fills it up at 10pm and it is on at 7am.... no problems...

Not that loud, not a honda 3000 but you could barely hear it running standing on opposide or RV...

I am thinking about one but I just dumped 600 on my onan 4000.....

I looked at these when they were on pre-order. Cummins Onan isn't making this generator. Here is an older data sheet that discloses the engine is made by Ducar:

https://www.norwall.com/product_pdfs...ecs_4_2019.pdf

I think Cummins is hiring Ducar to private label the generator for them as do many US brands.

Here is a Pulsar generator that is physically the same but a different color for comparison:

I recall Westinghouse is another company who labels this as their own.

It could be a good generator but I would probably go with the lowest price in this class. These aren't built to be long lasting like the Honda or Yamaha inverters.

The Pulsar is pretty close, a few specs here and there..

I liked the Cummins overall and the Westinghouse has 2 version, one from 2018 and the newest version as is the Cummins..

That would be my first choice , as for longevity, use good oil change it and so be it... I have Hondas with over 2500 hrs and even these models but I use them hard and change oil every 100 hrs..

I use the death out of this https://g-pamerica.com/product/gpg3500ie/
a $600-700 unit..
Simple no electronic display, quiet, at full load at 3meters 62-64ish, 57-59 in eco, added my own hr meter.
It is just marginal when running a 13K AC and refridge and tv is OK.
it will run a 15K but it is running hard when compressor cycles..
But it runs like a top with lots of hours, it runs 5 days straight with ac on at times, I only stop it to change oils on long trips in hot weather..

Good luck on a generator purchase >>>>>
