Generator Question?
Getting ready to head out on our first trip in a couple of weeks. I had my trailer plugged into shore power last week, but I didn't want to turn on the A/C because it's not a 30 amp circuit.
I was thinking about hooking up my generator, which is NOT an inverter generator, to just run the the A/C, for the purpose of making sure it's working to elevate any surprises.
I know inverter generators are ideal for RV's, but would just running the A/C be ok? Thoughts...

I would say a load is a load, and the a/c should be enough. It is better than no load.

What wattage is the generator? If large enough you can most certainly use it to try the A/C out.

Crank up the AC. You have enough watts.

5000 watts? No problem then.

Most of the Motorhome generators are NOT inverter generators and run ACs all of the time.
Your 30 amp trailer needs 3600 watts to run everything. Your 5000 watt generator is more then enough.
The main reason for using inverter generators is light weight and quiet running.

Most RV air conditioners will run just fine on a common 15 or 20 amp outlet if NOTHING else is on, this includes battery chargers.
