HP HP DV6t Series Laptops
I just wanted to share with you what I got for Christmas. "Yes", a new laptop!
Compared to my last HP computer a dv6149us, my new HP
dv6-1355dx is like a Star Ship.
The upgrade in processor, RAM, and operating system (64 Bit Windows 7) has allowed me to compute without any waiting for things to happen.
My new machine has 4GB of RAM and I can put as much as 8 GB at some point if I really want to speed things up. Right now I don't see any need to do so. Another feature that I like about this system is the stand alone keypad!
On my last system I was limited to 2 GB of RAM and that was it. I considered upgrading the O/S but since the handicap in RAM and the slow processor I am glad that I waited and didn't spend the money to update my old laptop. Now that said, my daughter-in-law has never had such a excellent machine and she really likes her new laptop!
The dv6-1355 is approximately 1 inch wider than the dv6149 and it's a bit tight in my computer bag. I considered getting a DV7 however that thing is as wide as my wall mounted Sony flat screen.
On the following day after I got my new laptop and a quick stop at the store I picked up a new Logitech V220 wireless mouse in Blue. Nice mouse but I'm not sure why the transmitter has to be 1 3/4" long. My previous mouse had a mini USB transmitter about 1/4 of an inch long.
Nice to have features include the N protocol wireless card and a 500GB hard drive. This machine retails on the HP website at about $650.00 however with some incentives and rebate cards we were able to get the price down and get out the door in not too bad of shape. I used the 802.11"
N" wireless already with my Linksys router and it worked great!
I would have never thought just a few months ago that I would be able to get this level of technology at this price.
When I setup the system, I was able to make a set of recovery DVDs, 3 in total. Since I started using the system, I have had very few hangups or problems. I really like W7 and this new system rocks! The system already came with NIS10 and all I had to do was transfer one of the 3 licenses that I already have.
According to
MyTopDozen's list of Best Computer manufacturers, Hewlett Packard ranks #1 and more than beats out the #2 manufacturer by a greater than 2 to 1 margin.
My only regret is not being able to capitalize on buying this system at Costco. They had just about an identical system to the one I have however it came bundled with a HP printer for close to $800.00 which I wasn't ready to part with. The part I regret is not having their 2 year warranty .... so we went to Best Buy. The purchase experience there wasn't bad, as opposed to the nightmare that I went through at Circuit City. CC told me that the bundle included setup by their Goon Squad and that my system would be ready in 24 hours.
OK so now I come back the next day and it had software that I didn't want and the stuff that I did want wasn't installed. I got my money back on the software. They also made a set of recovery CDs for me and when I went to restore the machine for my DIL the restore set failed the recovery! I had to go on-line and buy a restore CD from HP which worked quite flawlessly. When I went to BB I said "that system" and I was checked out without any grief or follow on tricks and I was out the door pretty quickly.
I give this new HP laptop a BIG
