We bought an iRobot Roomba after seeing a review on TV. This product is fantastic. We like it so much we brought it with us in the motorhome for our 4 month summer trip. We go out and leave it running and the carpet and kitchen tile is spotless when we come back. The cat just ignores it. The maids are only going to be coming once a month when we get home.

We bought the same one at Costco recently. The first time I used it was in the master bedroom at home. Later, I checked on it and couldn't find it. Then I walked into the closet and saw my shirts moving, and it came out a few seconds later. It does do a nice job. When I use it in the living room, it does seem to purposely hunt down our dog

We have two at home and love them. They do an outstanding job. My wife questiioned my sanity when I bought a third for the motorhome. We travel with two small dogs. The roomba goes on when we leave and the coach is clean when we return. I feel better knowing I'm not alone. These things a great-does a much better job than our built in vac.

We're in the market for a new vacuum and I like the reviews I'm reading about this product. Just one question. How does it know when it's done cleaning the whole house/rig?

It knows when things are clean because it has a sensor underneath that records the amount of dirt particles that it is picking up. The sensor decides when the floor is clean. Then it goes back to its recharging station automatically. You empty the dirt cup and it is ready to go again. Our motorhome is staying so clean I am amazed. I have not had the vacuum out once this trip and we have been out a month. I never realized the cat shed so much.

That's how things work with Costco. If you see something you want, it may not be there tomorrow. Edit: Sam's Club does have a model listed online.

I don't know how it knows, but generally, you'll know when it heads back to the charger and plays its little "I'm finished" tune.

My experience is that it can get confused when working with too large an area. Our living room at home has two hallways, a dining room and kitchen. If I try to get it to do the whole thing, it doesn't do a great job. The living room also has a black chest that's just the right height to let the Roomba go under, but the chest curves down and the Roomba gets stuck. It does a lot better if I limit it to smaller areas. To do a bedroom at home, I start the Roomba and close the door. The next day, I'll do the same in another bedroom.

For our use, the Roomba isn't a perfect solution for all of our needs. It does do most of it and that means we drag out the regular vacuum a lot less often.

So true with Costco on many good products.

I went by my local Costco yesterday afternoon just for the heck of it to see if they had any. They had one 550 left on the shelf, with no price listed anywhere. I grabbed it and it rang up at $249.95, so I bought it without hesitation. I opened the box this morning and read the owner's manual. I haven't used it yet, as it's currently in the kitchen charging up.

Thanks for the tip Lukeaa!

Craig

We've had a Rhoomba for years, on our second one. You will still need to touch up the corners and edges now and then. We also have the Scooba, which is the mop version. Great products!

Caveat: There are sellers on Ebay, too. Check with the factory before you buy. I bought the first one on Ebay and the factory said they would not warranty those bought from Ebay. The factory eventually sent me the part, the Ebay seller was no help. FWIW

I like, I like.

It works just as well as everyone said it would. My wife was apprehensive because I am always bringing home new gadgets. The apprehension melted away when I showed her how much dirt it collected from cleaning just one room. In the MH, it gets into tight spots that I never even attempt with a regular vacuum. It amazes me that something so small can clean so well.

How does the roomba do with fringe? We have a large area rug in the living area that has fringe on 2 ends -- will it tangle up in it?

We have a rug with fringe and it works great. It is very smart and well designed.
