A stinky slinky isn't rocket science; plumbers grease or Vaseline should not be required. There are only two spots that "can" leak (at the RV end). The first is where the fitting attaches to the RV. If the pins on the outlet are not worn, the face is not damaged, the dog ears on the hose fitting are not worn or damaged, and the o-ring is good, then that joint won't leak. The second spot is where the hose itself is attached to the fitting. Old school (hose slipped on, secured with a hose clamp) is pretty much foolproof. I've also successfully used the red type that looks like a screw; full length threads that you "screw" onto the hose. Some of the new hoses with "built on" fittings? Not so sure, and if that joint is leaking, then you're probably SOL.
Mine (the Camco fitting) leaked at the first spot (old hose was slipped on and clamped; no leak there). Pins and face on the RV were good and not worn/damaged. O-ring on fitting was good (even tried replacing; no change). Which means that the dog ears on the fitting were manufactured wrong; not tightening the fitting against the RV outlet tight enough.
Old black plastic no-name fitting works fine, new Valtera clear plastic fitting works fine. BOTH "feel" tight when installing on RV. Camco fitting "feels" loose; leaks. Period.
Again, plumbers grease or Vaseline is nothing more than a bandaid to cover up a flaw.
