We are in the market for a small (approx 3 c.f.)120 v freezer to put in the basement of the mh.

I've found several on the net and I don't recognize any of the manufacturer names. Does anyone have any experience with companies like Summit, Haier, Sunpentown, Avanti, Danby...see what I mean?

Also, what about a freezer in the basement? Anybody else doing this?

Thanks.

I put a Suppentown Stand Alone Ice Maker in my closet and it works great. It makes 20 Lbs a day. When we get to our destination, it is putting out the first ice cubes in 20 minutes. I do not know how long it will last, but at $318.00, I can replace it about twice for the price of the U-Line. I had a U-Line in our first MH and the current MH did not have one, a stand alone is great and it also allows the fridge to stay colder.

I think that if you do a search with the make and model you are interested in, you can add "and review" to your search and find out from others that bought the same model what they thought.

Jim, I have been contemplating doing the same thing. I would like to know if the installation of a vent in the basement compartment would be necessary in order to place a small freezer there. I too would like to hear from anyone who has expierience with the brands you named, and the installation of same.

I just took a U-line BCM-95 Ice Maker out of my Monaco and posted it on Craigslist/Portland, OR. It works great and it didn't require any special vent. If you want info on this use this link: U-line : Products : RV : Ice Maker BCM-95

Don't know about the rest, but Haier has about 30% of the domestic Chinese refrigeration market and markets worldwide.

A friend has two Haier's and is very pleased with them. Don't know anything about the other brands.

I have two Haier TV sets, not a freezer, but no problems in four years.

I use an Engle.. Norcold sells one just like it.. This is kind of expensive (As I recall 800 bucks) but it's a dual power (12dc 120ac) unit that when running draws a great whomping 3 amps (or less) off my 12 volt batteries.. YES, 36 watts.. I mean it will run all night, along with the furnace and other stuff, and not kill my house batteries (A pair of Golf Car batteries) .

The problem is.. It did not fit in the basement though (Different basement it might have) so I put it in place of some chairs.. I can indeed sit on it

I have a Norcold mini freezer and the manual says it should not be installed in a closed (un-vented) area.

The Norcold was a gift from my sister in law. She used it back when she had a TT and it is at least 25 years old.

Hi Elk-- Jim,

I mounted this 120 V unit in a basement Bay several years ago.

It iis EITHER a fridge OR a freezer, depending on the "cold" setting you select. I know the little jem will get to -15 f in 10 minutes. It works great. It cost around $165.

It doesn't use much power and the inverter I installed runs its fine as I tool down the highway. I've run it overnight on a two battery (6 volt golf cart batteries in series) package- no problem.

It's a great unit---- and great service from these folks.

1 Avanti Freezer (4 cf)
1 Haier Refrigerator (3cf)
1 Aficionado by Haier Refrigerator (4cf)

We like them. we have had Haiers before. Ice Makers, Refrigerators, Wine Coolers, Washers, Dryers, Dishwashers, Air Conditioners & More - CompactAppliance.com is a good place to find the little freezers.

Jim-

No, I haven't vented it. The bay adjoins (open to, on the right side) several other bays and I didn't feel it was necessary.

Compact Appliance is a class act for service.

Well, when running on DC this sucker sucks a great whoppign 3 amps.. Yup, 3 amps (next to nothign) And it works too. Norcold sells one like it.. Kind of expensive but worth in in my book
