Onan Generator Problems

Hi Folks,

We have a gas 3.3Kw Onan Genny on our Vanguard Vintage Motorhome. Not too sure how old the gen set is but when we bought the RV the generator would not run. It tries to start but when I let go of the starter switch it quits. I don't know what to try first. The fuel pump is new and it seems to be getting fuel ok.
Tried switching off the load and still no difference.

If anyone has a suggestion I would appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks so much,

Dragon 56

Need a little more info on the generator ,model would be nice. Could be the oil pressure switch . Some of the older generators required oil pressure before they would run. Could also be a problem with the choke . If it has been sitting for a long time chances are pretty good that the carburetor is gummed up and needs cleaning.

That action of dying when Start released is classic for oil pressure shut-down; (Start bypasses the low OP kill switch) if oil level, OP switch and wire seem OK, try changing Oil Filter? Onan book says level too high, or too low, as too high can make oil foamy and fails to properly pressurize. Too much can be added, if NOT LEVEL when it is checked, and tilted away from dipstick.

Thanks fellas

Its a 4BGEFA26101G If I know the oil level is ok is it possible to bypass the oil switch?

I have found a troubleshooting guide on a site recommended by another member and I will try a few of the suggestions in it. I am thinking it may have something to do with the Power feedback to the control board but I'm not sure how to or where to measure the voltage.

Thanks again,
