Outdoor Lanterns

Ok I searched the forum up and down and could not find anything on portable battery operated Lanterns. Before I buy one are there any suggestions on the best ones available?

It depends on what you intend to use it for and are comfortable with.

Personally I keep several Coleman's around the house and carried one for a while but never used it with the MH. Every once in a while I consider a kerosene for the softer ambiance but never seem to miss having one so have not bought one to see if it would be used. All in all a couple of good flashlights do the job well. ;-)

In days of old your choice was incandescent or florescent. Not all that many Companies made really good ones.

Today you can get LED, about a million competitors in that field, I would look for one with a Strong frame/body. About all i can say.

We've had this Coleman one for 15 years. It's, metal, durable, rechargeable & has 2 light settings. Yes it's not a power-saving LED one, but it's lasted longer than a couple of those LED one's we've bought recently.

You may laugh but

The DW bought four of these Brooklin lanterns at Wal Mart on sale for $5 each. they are LED and run on 2 D cell batteries. They are placed around our campsite on Shepard hooks that we place in the ground. They illuminate our whole camp area in the evening hours and because they are LED the batteries last all summer. They need to be kept dry however as they are not water proof.

Costco has this GE 350 Lumen for $19.99. It runs on either 4 or 8 D cells batteries. It is waterproof and durable

Harbor Frieght has a nice lantern. It is small and my not put out enough light for what you need but it has adjustable led lights, runs off rechargable batteries and can be recharged by the built in solar panel, car outlet or plugged into a 120v outlet and recharged. They are onsale for $19.00 all the time or you can get a 20% off coupon on the web site.

If you want completely solar, this company makes the best.

I have 2 of their "Victory" lights and they are first rate....also very bright.
