I just purchased and installed the Pioneer AVIC D-1 GPS and stereo system. This is a double din size stereo that fits into your dash with a 6.5 inch GPS screen. (The double din is the same size as some of the large Ford and Chrysler radios). The audio porion has AM/FM, CD, DVD, back-up camera, and Sirius and XM capabilities. The mapping portion has two DVD's that split the country in half. The mapping includes restaurants, banks, airports, attractions and even gas and diesel stations. You can pick multiple routes and displays along with voice prompts.
I also ordered a small flat egg shaped wireless remote that attaches to the steering wheel. The total cost was $1250.00. This s alittle pricey, but you get both GPS ad stereo. One of the coolest features is the address search. You can search by address or type in a phone number. If the phone number is listed, it'll display the address and map.
The power and speaker wiring was fairly simple and spliced into my old stereo wiring. Running the GPS antenna to the roof was alittle more difficult. I drilled a 1/4 inch hole through the top of the front cap and fed the antenna lead through the hole and fed it down along the driver's windshield post (plenty of cable length). I used the included two sided tape to attach the antenna to the roof and then used clear roofing sealer around the edges to protect it.
The only unusuual wiring was a need to wire to the parking brake to make the system think the vehicle was stopped when information was being entered. Pioneer had me wire to a switched ground which did the same thing.
The system worked great on our first trip to Quartzsite and took us right to the Chamber of Commerce when only the City name was entered. This thing is fantastic.
Downside.....you can't transfer it to a toad, but you can run a route while in cap and view it on the screen before you leave.
