We saw an ad on TV recently for Purex 3-in-1 laundry detergent. The ad claims that one sheet does it all. You throw the foam sheet into the washer during the wash cycle and then into the dryer for softening. I thought this would be ideal for RV-ing if it worked well, as the small container would save space.

I'm sad to report that it didn't work well for us. The detergent didn't just couldn't remove normal camping dirt from my white socks, even with the use of bleach. We'll be returning to good ole Tide detergent.

Craig - Are you using a Splendide combo washer? If so, is the Tide detergent you used previously the HE type recommended for front-loading machines? We are looking for an alternative to the expensive Splendide detergent, but haven't had the opportunity to give the Tide HE a try. The Purex 3-in-1 sounds like a good idea, but it looks like we can rule it out as a possibility.

Be very careful of any softener sheets in the dryer. Most manuals (combo Splendid) will tell you not to use them. The ingredient in the dryer sheets will cake on the filter and can cause eventual problems.

No, we opted out of the washer/dryer combo option for the extra storage space. We use CG laundry facilities.

We have used the Purex sheets with great results.

That said, we have a separate washer & dryer, not the Splendide. They are Whirlpool apartment models, and the sheets work just fine. Plus they take up a whole lot less room.

PAZ, several brands are now available in low suds versions, one doesn't have to buy the Splendide brand, we never have. We buy the 2X and 3X liquid versions, either work quite well in our Splendide. Wife directed me to only use 1 tablespoon in each load.

We too use the All HE type liquid detergents in our Splendide, and we use the snuggles liquid softener. Have not had a problem yet and it does seem to get our clothes clean without a problem.

We too have never used Splendide detergent -- didn't know there was such a thing!! We use liquid HE detergents -- a small quantity as the Speldide manual advises -- generally whichever of the main brands is cheaper when we go shopping! We also often use powdered OxyClean as a detergent booster because the DW thinks it helps --- but she isn't the one who has to clean the caked powder out of the drawer and under it every so often!!

Tell her to read the oxyclean directions, it should be put into the washer drum prior to clothes. It falls into the drum holes, then it dissolves when the water is splashed around between the drum and outside container. Result, no caking, or residue on clothes.
Has my wife trained me right or what!

All right!!!! A new trick -- that one will definitely be used!!!

I wonder if only liquid should be put into the detergent/bleach drawer? ...and powder put only into the drum? ....not that we use powdered detergent, but might sometime!

I don't have a washer/dryer in my RV... But that is STILL a great idea... A lot less space and sooooo much easier to carry to the Laundromat.

We've used the Purex sheets for about a year now with good results. DW still puts liquid bleach in the whites loads, but overall they are a good convenience item. We use CG laundries. We use Oxi-Clean at home and always put it in the tub first with the powdered detergent(Tide- since DW is an Alabama fan).

My wife won't let me near the washer/dryer. How's that for training?

We have used the Purex 3-in-1 sheets for several months in our Splendide and RV park machines and Marilyn swears by them -- take up less space and are much more convenient. As someone mentioned, additional bleach for white clothes does help.
