Repairing Slide Toppers

I have the old Carefree of Colorado SOK II slide toppers on my 2004 Holiday Rambler. The spring broke on the bedroom slide topper and the big slide topper is weak on rolling up the top.

I just ordered two new springs so I shouldn't have to mess with them for awhile.

My question is, is there any advantage to spraying the springs with a coating of silicone before installing them. My thinking is it may prevent corrosion and help the spring to operate more smoothly with reduced friction.

What do you think?

I have installed new springs in a couple of slide toppers and I soaked the springs thoroughly with silicone lubricant!
