Maybe reason RM claims to have heard about few problems with screen is - they have selective hearing. I posted a review of 7710 on the RM site and it has yet to show up?

It's too bad that this unit has this problem. I like the unit itself. It has lots of features and info on the screen. I have been using it in my pickup for a couple months. I did send the original unit back because it was locking up. This one has had no problems. I have noticed some glare in the screen but it was still readable. But, living in central NY, the sun doesn't shine around here much in the winter! The MH is covered and stored now so I can't try it in that. I hope RM will/can do something to make it right.

I called RN talked to a representative he did not seem to be the
brightest light in the room did not really know what I was talking about
he said the only thing he could do was put the problem I was
having in there suggestion box. I like the unit has a lot of good features
and we are going to keep it and try to work on the glare problem
are selves we brought the glare screen they sell keeps finger prints
off screen thats all no help with glare
It's to bad there R&D did not really check the screen out, they must
have just turned it on inside a building never went outside or
they would have seen the problem

Couple more notes: Some glare problems could be eleminated or reduced if mounting bracket had more range of motion thus allowing more mounting possibilities. The pivot on suction cup end needs detents molded on both sides - that would allow flipping that part and new mounting possibilities. The rotating head on the other end is severly limited in range. I would guess 45 degrees tilt, or less. The right angle USB connector protrudes beyond the rear of the case preventing any surface mounting possibilities. Finally it would be a nice touch if one of the charging adapters had a removable cord with USB connectors on both ends for connecting to computer - one less part.

Every one of these are good suggestions; while the mount was heavy duty (of course necessary because the 7710 is really heavy, we were wondering if it would ever fall off when we bounced down the roads), we agree the range of adjustment was quite limited compared to other mount designs.
When I phoned RM to discuss my 7710, I suggested to the voice on the phone that RM institute its own Customer Forums so they could hear from us Customers directly, and we could hear what each other were talking about. Until RM does that, we can only hope RM has at least enough sense to 'lurk' on great forums like this to hear what we are saying.

Mine is packed up and will be taken to UPS tomorrow to return. I just could not find a spot in my truck where I could place the unit where the sun didn't hit it. Plus I resent paying that much money for a GPS and then needing to spend even more $$$ to be able to see it. This is an R&D SNAFU as far as I am concerned.
Maybe one day when they get their act together I might try it again.

Just received an email from RM announcing that all new 7710 wil have the Woodalls directory installed, and that updates for all others will be available for download in the 2nd qtr.
That's good news!

It doesn't much matter what they install in it if one is unable to view it!!

This is only speculation, but my guess is most of those that are having trouble with viewing are using it in something other than a type A motor home. While there could be a scenario where the sun could directly hit the screen of our GPS, it would be rare. The sun would have to be low and behind us. In that instance I'd simply lower the translucent shade a bit until the sun finally set. Otherwise, the unit is sitting so far in from the windshield it's not a real issue. Could it be brighter? Sure, but I'm guessing it would use a lot more power and/or more expensive technology?
I realize that the majority of our members may not own/drive type A motor homes, just food for thought for those of you that do.

In our situation the screen was not readable due to indirect sunlight not direct sunlight on the screen.
RM has an issue with this product that seems to severely limit the applications in which it works we.
It did not work for us, so we returned it. We hope others that have purchased it find it worth the expense, but would caution any prospective buyers to try it in their application before buying it.

If you have a 7710 show us "A" owners how to mount it.
Adding pull down shades to windows is more money.
It is not only a direct sunlight problem.
I have tried the three most common locations (window mount, left and right side of console) with little difference. Garmin worked much better. It is a design problem.

I will agree that the 7710 does not have as bright a display as a Garmin, particularly if you're not viewing it straight on (see attached pic of how I have it mounted). However I haven't had a major problem with sun glare, and even with my 69-year old eyes, I can still see what I need to. Now if some need a GPS unit that both the driver and the co-pilot will be trying to look at, then the 7710 is definitely not a good choice.
The big plus for me is its superior routing directions compared to when I ran it side by side with my Garmin Nuvi (latest maps installed). One example is when I was in Phoenix, and was unable to change lanes safely when I missed an exit that both units indicated correctly. The biggest difference was the 7710 gave me a much better reroute to get back on course than the Garmin did.

Here's a photo of my mount. I simply went to Best Buy and they had several choices. Some were the simple 'sand bag' type. This one 'sticks' to the dash surface with a low stick adhesive (can easily pull it up, will not leave any residue) and simply has a big flat disc of plastic in the center to which I stuck the RM supplied mount. It's been happily riding in that same spot for a while now. That section of the dash opens up, I do not remove the GPS before I do so, and it's never threatened to fall off or come loose.

I have mine mounted to the right of the driver on the dash similar to jmonroe. Works great for us in that location and allows for lowering the drivers side blind if necessary to block direct sunlight. I think the 7710 would be to large for trying to use in a car or pick-up truck. I agree that the screen is hard to see in direct sun but for us we are able to shade the screen when we need to. As far as the software, it has worked well for us so far. I really like all of the RV poi's.
