I use the Winegard bird finder from Camping World - it works just fine for the money.

I bought two from ebay. They were under different names , but came from the same mailing address. They appear to be the same generic finders CW sells. Each cost about $3.00 plus shipping. I bought two so I would have a spare when I misplaced one. The one I've used works well. I suppose you could find a more elaborate one, but why bother.

Just use the signal strength meter that the receiver puts on the TV screen. I've use the signal finder before and sometimes unknowingly peaked the wrong satellite, which you can't tell until you go back inside and look at the setup screen. For my way you need 2 people though, assuming you are mounting the dish away from the RV.

I do not use the portable to often but have a wireless headphone set to assist in setting up the dish. Read somewhere that this works great. Can not say for sure since I have been lucky and only using the dish mounted on top.

But, I am prepared and it made sense to me.
