Sewer Sock

This is a product review for the "Sewer Sock," which I will refer to as SS in this review. I purchased this item outright with no contact or promotion from the manufacturer. I have no interest in the company whatsoever.

The SS comes in a couple of different sizes, and is designed to form a barrier between the outside world and the sewer compartment of your RV. Here is a picture of the product before it has been installed.

At first glance, it may not seem obvious how it works, so I will show the install. Note on this picture that there is a stiff ring on one end, and a Velcro strap on the other. The "sock" is made from metal screen material.

To install, you first need to insert the sock into the hole at the bottom of your sewer compartment where the hose normally exits:

Next, feed your sewer hose through the sock from the outside.

Size: 104.2 KB

... And attach the hose as you normally would:

Size: 105.2 KB

Now you need to tighten the Velcro strap around the hose itself:

And that's how the install goes. Note that gravity and tension are required for the stiff rubber ring to help to form the barrier on the inside of the compartment, but it's really simple to achieve. All you do is tug downward on the SS prior to tensioning the Velcro.

Overall, the setup added a maybe 1 minute to my usual hookup, so it's certainly an easy install. And the design seems like it should do exactly what it is supposed to do--keep out critters!

They make different sizes for smaller water or electricity size hose/wires too, but I don't have a need for those. This is their standard sewer hose size and it seems perfectly appropriate for the standard 3" gravity dump hoses.

There you have it!

I have always just used a towel to seal it up..........but have been looking at the "Critter Guard"
RV Accessory, Motorhome Pest and Insect Control - RV-Critter Guard

I have never heard of the sewer sock........another option! Thanks!

Nice products, I use 0000 steel wool, better than a towel and inexpensive.

Just another geehaw invented to seperate you from your money.
Just goes to show you that if someone invents something, there will always be someone out there to buy it.
I'll get one and store it away with my windshield wiper berings (designed to let your rubber wiper blades slide effortlessly over the glass)

A few years ago I had this idea ......it works pretty well.....and was inexpensive and easy to do.

I took a new residential toilet plunger.....removed the stick....... cut the top off.....then I cut a slit in the rubber boot. I was then able to slip it around the sewer hose and drop it into place. NO MORE CRITTERS

I don't have, nor haven't ever had, critters - How many do ?

Mater of fact.....when we had the wet bay floor recall done at Red Bay ( on our previous Tiffin ) there was a dead mouse caucus under the tank when they removed the old floor. :(

I never thought about critters entering through the sewer hose hole. Now I have something else to worry about. Oh, well. I've got another project😬

Looks like a total waste of money. If a critter could enter your RV from the wet bay, don't you think he could enter a thousand other spots. This stuff reminds me of the guys with those stupid weather vein looking things on their sewer vents.

Not sure I would call any product stupid until I knew how to spell it.
