what is the best tv satellite system. I now have dish 500 with local networks. i have to find a spot, tune in the sat. and it works ok. the biggest problem is anchor the dish. i have had it blown away serval times, and for overnight who wants to put up and take down a dish everyday. my new winne has a crank up wineguard dish but it dose not handle dish 500. yea you can manualy move the dish from 110 to 119 but still cannot use the full dish home programs. i dont understand why whineguard or other manufactures don't have skew adjustment. now i would not mind climbing up and manualy adujusting the skew since you would not have to do this often. any suggestions please?

I guess your next best bet would be one of those automatic dishes.
But you have to ask yourself, How important is your TV time and is it really worth it?

In fact Motosat Model MD500 does just what you are asking. According to their website the system goes for $1895.00. I can move the rooftop dish a long time for that kind of money.

I switched to DirecTV for the same setup reasons. As far as anchoring, I use a tent stake and heavy bungee cord to hold the dish mounting tripod secure. Setup the tripod and drive the tent stake in the ground in the center of the tripod legs. Loop the bungee around one of the leg pivots and attach to the tent stake. Have said all of this, I switched to dome a year ago and only use the manual dish setup when trees or large objects become a problem.

We have the Winegard AS 3000 auto crankup dish. This works great with our two direct tv receivers in the coach. I even have a Tivo receiver with 2 inputs hooked up using a multiswitch. We have used this system from Washington to Maine, down the east coast and back across the US on Hiway 20 to California. We have never been in a spot where we could not get a signal and didn't lose the picture in a rainstorm that dumped over 4" in about 3 hours. It usually takes about 5 minutes to locate the satellite and lock on. When we are setting up, I level the coach, turn on the dish and by the time I get all the utilities hooked up, it is ready to go. Simple push button operation that uses a GPS antenna to find the approximate position and then fine tunes itself.

I have been using my manual crankup Wineguard 20 inch dish for Direct TV for 7 years or so. I can find the satellite in just a few minutes.
One problem is that during windy weather the dish tends to lose the satellite and I have to play around with it to reaquire the signal.
I also have a 36 inch dish with a motor, a combination linear and circular LNB and a DSR 4200 Digicypher MPEG II receiver which I hope to hookup soon for FTA Free To Air TV and some educational channels. This 36 inch dish is on the back of my 24 foot 6 inch class C. When everything is hooked up and the satellite dish is alignend I should be able to go from one satellite to another with the push of a button. Each satellite generally has hundreds of channels and many of them are FTA. Since I only have a 36 inch dish and not a 12 to 6 foot dish I can get Ku band but not C band. I have heard that their are "free" movie channels on C band?

I use a portable dish on a tripod. I have a shoulder bolt running through the pipe I have the dish mounted on, towards the bottom. I have the bolt through an eye on a turnbuckle, a hook on the other end. I run a dog screw in anchor into the ground, attach the turnbuckle to the screw in anchor and give it a couple of turns. In six years of doing this it has never moved for me in any kind of weather. Easy to take down in about 5 min.

One of the resons my Direct TV maual crankup moves is because it is rivrted together in certain places and there is a lot of sloppiness.
It sounds like you have lots more to do than I to get your dish up? All I have to do is crank the dish up (approximately 13 turns) aim it at 180 degrees true and then crank it down (approximatelly 5.5 turns). All of this is done in a flash inside the MH. Most of the time I am right on.

Sorry I mistakenly thought you were having problems with a stand alone remote dish. I have had both the roof mounted and the stand alone. I stick with the stand alone. It is easier to find the satellite here in the Mid West with the campgrounds full of trees. It does take a little longer to set up or tear down, but I know I will always find a signal.
