I found (well my wife did) the 400p-rv for $192 with free shipping at gosale.com That was about $50 dollars less than other sites. I think it will do what I need, guess I'll find out soon.

I love the viair 400, it is quiet and will fill my tires fast. I am gonna run some connectors off of my battery so I don't have to open the hood every time I use it but other than that it's awesome.

I have the 450 RV since my tires are huge compared to most. 365/70 front and tag and 315/80 drive. Fronts take 120 so really need the longer duty cycle.

We have a Viair 400-RV and it works great. I’ve got a pair of 10GA wires with an SAE connector permenantly connected to the battery that we use for the ViAir and the portable Maceator pump we use to pump out the tanks at home. No bother with battery clamps popping off.

Do you have a picture? Don't know what an SAE connector is.

These are the ones I’ve been using - 10 gauge wire. Usually also available at auto parts stores, but likely with smaller gauge wire.

If you're asking about the Viair - big alligator clips. I think he is cutting them off, butt connecting those cables onto the wire to the Viair and using another cable, with one end cut off and ring connectors added and connected to the batteries.
Only down side is if you want to take it to a neighbor to air up something for them, you can't.
I just bought the 450P and tried it out yesterday. Pretty quiet, has 50 ft of hoses and everything you need to air tires or balls, etc. Comes in a nice carrying case although it takes a bit of room to store since the hose storage bags are on the sides. Would be nice if they allowed you to move them to the top, then the whole thing would be very narrow.
One thing I just bought was a locking air chuck to put on the hose end.

So...
Since I am coming in to the conversation a bit late; So what did you end up with, and how is it working for you. I am also interested in the Viair, and called the manufacturer to ask their opinion. Rep asked me what type rig I have, and without hesitation recommended the 400P RV (which comes with all the same gizmos as the 450P-RV)

Near as I can tell, the major difference is the 400 has a 30% duty cycle while the 450 has a 100% duty cycle.

As I mentioned earlier, I got the 400P and it works great on my big 315 front tires. I use it just to top off to 125psi. Took about 5 minutes to go from 110 to 125psi on each tire. The compressor never turned off. I'm going to venture to say that unless you're filling these tires from flat all the way to operating pressure, the 400P will work fine. But, for that warm and fuzzy feeling, the 450P is a 100% run time bad boy. I chose the 400P because I saved about $80. Boom.

I have the 450 as well. It runs great.. Even better now after I realized that my batteries on the house are 6v each and I am giving my 450 a full 12v now

I have the Vaire and love it. Even good for topping off my Cat grader tires 1300x24. That porter cable is a piece of junk. Run at high pressure and it throws a rod.
