Last weekend I had the opportunity to try out my new Vu Qube 2000. I have Dish Network 500. The Vu Qube 2000 is the portable, automatic satellite switching antenna with dual lnbs. Set up was a breeze. This Vu Qube differs from the 1000 as the 2000 requires a power source in order to automatically change between sats as you change channels. I am using a DN 311 receiver that I purchased on Ebay for $15. From the time I removed the antenna from the box to watching TV was less than 15 minutes. First I sat the Vu Qube on the ground but had to program the antenna to receive DN 500, it comes programmed for Direct TV. I then hooked up the antenna to my receiver and following the directions, programmed the receiver "check switch". For some reason I had to do this twice to get the required results, once this process was properly set up, I then needed to download the channel guide. This took about 5 minutes. Once everything was loaded, we were watching TV, easiest set up I've ever done, period.
Now here's the strange part, I no more get the dish programmed and TV up and running when my neighbor comes over, sees the Vu Qube, goes over to it and kicks it. That's right, he kicked it and laughs. Completely knocking it out of alignment wit the sats. Don't ask me why he did it as I couldn't get it out of him. I'm leaving out the next few minutes of what transpired, so as to keep this a family site. So after I had taken out the *trash*, I thought this is a perfect time to see what this baby can do. I set the Vu Qube back where I originally had it, went in and powered it off then back on while holding the on button for three seconds. It did its scan and locked on immediately to the sats and we were up and running again.
At first I was going to go with the 1000 but found I can run 2 receivers with the 2000. Perfect, I can watch my sports and the YF can watch her programs.
Now I need to come up with a solution to keeps the lunatics and kids from kicking the Vu Qube. I've seen the ladder bracket, however I do not believe it to be worth the price they are asking. I purchased the Vu Qube from CW on sale with free shipping. I've found the ladder bracket for $159 but still think it can be fabricated for less. Any ideas?
A friend of mine just purchase a roof mount sat dish and was bragging about the hot deal he got. Only problem I see is when he doesn't have a clear shot at the sats, I see him having to move his rig, not me, I'll just move the Vu Qube.
I give the Vu Qube 2000 two thumbs up.
