Memorial Day weekend we took a trip and fired up the Coleman Road Trip Grill and learned an interesting fact about it.
After warming it up for 5 - 10 minutes with the lid closed (like I do on my Weber at home to clean up the grates) I came out to find my plastic handle laying on the ground. When I pried open the lid I found that my two aluminum grates had melted into a pair of blobs. Nothing but molten aluminum ingots laying in the bottom of the grill. So we cooked our steaks on the pancake griddles instead. Apparently you can't leave the heat on high with the lid closed for very long. mAybe that's why you can buy optional cast iron grates as an accessory.
Oh well, I was getting really sick of the cleaning anyway. I know have a Weber Q120 ordered, which should be here any day. The Q120 is similar to last year's Baby Q (which is now the Q100) except it has the folding side shelves to put stuff on. I've seen the Q120 and it's a much better design than the Road Trip Grill. Looks like we'll have the Q120 in time for the next big trip.

Bob:
We just ordered a Baby Q direct from Weber....no shipping and very good price. We really liked your 220 but for the two of us, the Baby will do fine.

Gary, I am really happy with the 220 as well, but I will look into carrying a small propane cylinder with a hose,as the blue bottles lasted two nights...The manual says about an hour on one blue bottle and that's about what I did....Overall I am REALLY pleased and I am certain the Baby Q will work for you guys....Now you'll have it for your trip.....would love to hear more about your trip plans...

I've got a 4 lb. LP bottle that I've had for years. I'm going to clean it up and use it for the Baby Q.
I'll get back to you on our travel plans. It will be our first 'big' trip.....4 weeks in September out West. Gotta do it when you can 'cause you never know...'

I like the thermometer. We have them on our main Weber gas grill at home. But I wanted it to be more compact in the basement storage. After all I only have one of those lowly little 40 footers, not one of those 45 footers.
Besides, this leaves me more room to put all those rocks I collect on vacation, just like Lucy.

My Baby Q arrived yesterday. We used it tonite and had some great steaks. It is a fine little grill. I've ordered the 'Extend-A-Flow' gizmo that will allow attachment to the RV LP tank with a 12' hose.

You do realize the "Q" is currently still on the door side slide out tray on my Vectra...NO E-S-S-E-X til at least the 29th...
Not time for the 45'er jokes just yet...

Yeah, but I'll be gone on the road for 27 days starting this Saturday, with little or no web access, so I need to get them in early before my subscription expires.
By the way, I got my Q120 and tried it out. It's a big improvement over my RoadTrip Grill. I also welded up a small stand and cut four conduit legs if I want to park it up high. The stand is compact and doesn't take up any serious room.
Wasn't the ESSEX an aircraft carrier - fairly long if I recall.
