I have a KVH roof mounted satellite antenna on my RV. Last year I bought the VuQube 1000 for times when my KVH is obstructed by tree limbs and the like.
I have not been happy with my VuQube. The remote doesn't work well unless I am within 10 feet of the antenna, which makes setting up inside the RV a PITA.
I decided to upgrade to an automatic portable antenna. After doing some research, the automatic VuCube requires the installation of a switchplate inside the RV. I did not want another switchplate or the hassle of installing one, so I decided on the Winegard CarryOut. The only initial downside to the CarryOut that I could see was that it required a 12V power source to operate, unlike my old VuQube 1000 which gained it's power form the coax cable. Not wanting to run a 12V power cable in through a window, I later installed an auxillary 12V power outlet inside my dump bay.
The CarryOut is set at the factory for Direct TV. I have Dish Network so I had to remove the CarryOut's dome and flip a couple of dip switches. This was very easy. I then hooked the CarryOut up to 12V and my Dish receiver, and within no time at all I had all three Dish Network birds, including the 129 HD satellite.
The CarryOut seems to acquire signals sooner than my roof mounted KVH and is less finicky. I now have an easy to set up alternative should my roof mounted antenna be obstructed or give me a problem. I give it a big thumbs up!
