I recently replaced the old CRT's with 2 new LED TVs. Since we do some dry camping and don't want to run the genny just to watch TV, I was going to install 2 small inverters.

While doing the install, I noticed both TVs were actually 12VDC.... with an inline AC/DC converter on the power cord. The output on the converters are 12VDC 3.5 amps. My thoughts are to just cut the converters off and hard wire them or, buy a 12VDC 5amp power cord, cut the cigarette plug off and hard wire that.

Has anyone else done this, or anyone see any problems?

I did this with an LCD computer monitor that used an AC power brick with a 12vdc output. I made a fused cable that plugged into the monitor's power jack and tapped power from the car's fuse block. I used it for years on a car PC with no problems.

I built a 12v regulator for the monitor but for the life of me, I can't find the schematic. The mini-itx computer power supply had a regulator already built in. If building a circuit isn't your thing, there are ready made units you can buy.

I never worried about low voltage with my monitor since the AC power brick rated at 12vdc only put out 10 volts when tested with with a meter.

Rather than cut the converter cords I would get new 12 volt cords.

One thing (Caution) RV systems are really not 12 volt, they are higher,, Of course the 12 volt converter that comes with the TV may be higher as well... Without testing, I don't know.

Several members have reported excellent results doing what you purpose.

Several have reported "Issues" as well.. So.. Who knows.
