Has anyone bought a 4 g phone was wondering if 4g is that much better than the 3g used now on the smartphones?

If you are not in a 4G coverage area, it makes no difference. There aren't that many 4G areas available yet.

4g is significantly faster than 3g if you're in the coverage area. Check out the 4g coverage for your provider. If you're not in a 4g area, save your money for a couple of years.

We just bought, yesterday, a Samsung Charge. It is 4g capable but we only have 3g in our area.

We're headed out for two weeks and will hit some 4g somewhere so I will get to test it. Have already set a baseline with the 3g here at home using my PC connected through it to the internet.

Plan on using it for our GPS also. Have the dash mount setup already.

How do You like the charge I'm looking into them. Any good and bad points so far. I'm using a Droid for the past couple of years.

My computers can not eat at 4G speeds, in fact 3G is beyond their limit.

HOWEVER... Was just reading some ads from Time Warner... Folks may wish to look at them, However I caution that Time Warner all but invented Internet Fine print so read those ads very very carefully.

In areas where 4G is available, it is significantly faster at this point. I saw a demo in a north Denver Costco with a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy phone serving as a "hot spot" for several laptops. The PC's were pushing 12 Mgs/sec. Pretty amazing! Obviously the immediate area must be 4G capable. One wonders what it will be like with a slug of folks are sucking the pipe-- I assume speeds will drop.

My 3G smart phone says "EDGE" in the display - what's EDGE?

Basically, about half the 3G speed. I have AT&T and they have Edge, 3G, and 4G areas.

I picked up a thunderbolt to replace my Storm last week. Here in ict we have one 4g tower working so far right close to work. I have been using it because it seems faster than our wireless network.

I bought a multi-media dock and direct wire kit for my Droid 2 and mounted it on the dashboard. Works fine BUT the charger can't keep up with the power draw of using the GPS full time . . . seems to lose about 10% of the charge per hour. It is neat to have the Google maps navigation set to satellite view as you're driving along!
