Just purchased a 2011 39' Canyon Star. We want to use the garage for our dogs when we are out, but really want a monitoring system that can, perhaps alert us by cell if the a/c system fails (due to power loss, etc.). Does anyone know of anything like this? Any suggestions? We're very new to RVings and welcome ideas.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new Canyon Star. Got ours last year and very happy with it, I'm sure you will enjoy yours.

As to your question......I think you are worried about a power failure shutting down your A/C units? You can install an auto generator start system if you don't have one to assure your power needs. I'm not aware of a cell notification system but with technology today, there may be something out there. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Do you have a Canyon Star 39 as well? Would love to hear more about things you have learned about it. We brought ours home Friday and soon learned that a generator needs oil to run!! The service Dept. overlooked checking the oil. We thought we were starting out with a problem, and soon learned (through trial and error) that we could solve the problem. Anyway, to made us think about our dogs and how hot (we live in Fl.) they would be if something happened to the a/c (shore power or generator). My hubby read about a monitoring system... we just can't seem to locate the name of it.
Thanks so much for sharing.

Keys Girl - you just wrote me "trying to decide" - I looked at the Newmar you bought - it is a beauty. I am interested in how it is traveling with your 3 dogs since that is a concern for me also. I have a lab, golden retreiver and retreiver/pyrennes mix. They are large like your dogs. I am concerned about leaving them in campgrounds with barking etc. I also have a concern with the A/C not working and being notified - I too live in Fla. (Titusville) and would hate to not have air for them at all times. I would love to talk to you sometime. If you would like to email me it is neberlin@aol.com and let me know how your camping experiences are. Thanks

We have the Canyon Star 3647. Watched it being built at the factory in late July last year and took delivery in August. Have only put about 5K miles on it to this point, including a trip your way this past winter (spent a week in the keys, a month in Ft. Myers). Have had two big problems so far, the BR slide got bent due to a misadjusted slide topper and had a blow-out on an inner rear dual due to a mismatched tire size. Other than that, very pleased with our purchase and as you will discover, Newmar is very accommodating if you do have trouble.

As to your original question, you may want to peruse the attached page on Onan's control systems......a little pricey but probably what you are looking for in terms of A/C control. Cummins Onan

Take a look at the X10 home automation equipment. It's not terribly expensive and has the ability to monitor many things, including temp, and could notify you via cell/email if thresholds are beyond what you've set.

Hi guys - have a look at this. We have not tried the product, but it looks like it is worth a look.

Mobile/Wireless Temperature Alarm System - tiptemp.com

Good luck with the new Newmar!
