It is a stupid question...but it is one I have to ask.
I was very excited when we were having our MotoSat installed...we were finally going to have a dish with one of those cool blue lights!! NOT!!!

I have now started looking at every HD-SL5 that I see. Not one has their light on. Sacs has explained to me the blue light is not on unless the MotoSat Nomad receiver is left on.
Is this true? ...and if it is true... How many of you leave your receivers on just to have the cool blue light on .. or is it just because you did not know you could turn the receiver off after the lock-on is done?

Why not leave the controller on? I do, except when I'm in the Wal*Mart stealth mode.

Hey Dirk...
Just what is the "Wal*Mart stealth mode"??

Evidently those cool blue lights do only show up when the Nomad controller is on. Now I am surprised at how many people that I saw dry camping running the controller. I guess there are some things I just automaticaly have turned off to conserve electricity.

Why it's turning the blue lights off to help keep from attracting the curious.

As long as the controller is not moving the dish, power consumption is negligible, as only the blue LEDs are drawing power, and LEDs use very little power. I don't think you could ever tell the difference in power consumption.

Dirk,
Stop telling this woman to go ahead and leave everything on. There are enough lights in our MH from electronic equipment to enable you to take a picture in the dark without a flash.

Now you have me so curious that I can't wait to get our MH out of the shop to see the blue lights. I turn the controller off because the dealer/installer told me to...but heck to have blue lights its worth a bit more gen set time..

MotoSAT has no recommendation to turn the controller off.

After all, the blue light is their trademark.

My 2 controllers have been on for 2 years.

One for the TV dish, and one for the internet dish.

Dirk is correct. There is no recommendation by MotoSAT to turn off your Nomad. They would much prefer that you leave it on as it re-enforces just how many "blue lighters" there are out there!
Trust me, you are not going to have to run the generator for even one extra minute to compensate for the power drawn by the one LED that lights the dish up!

Our Dynasty is such a power hog I would not worry about a few milli amps a day. MM: The Blue light is a guy thing. Just like birds in the wild that are covered in mult color feathers. Even if it used 5 amps a day a "guy" would be happy as his neighbours would all see his blue light. Now if we could get the light to throw some tie dyed colors onto the dish!!! Like wow man!!
