All Icons on bottom of screen now vertical at side of screen

This is the second time in a month this has happened to me. Stopping for the evening I click the X at upper right hand of the screen at the web site I'm reading to get back to Start screen in order to Hibernate for the night and all the icons along the bottom of the screen are all at once up/down the left edge of the screen.
Don't know what I've done or how to get out of it. The last time it did this I just did a Restore to the previous day and everything switched back like it should be.

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. And please keep it simple since I'm very inept at understanding computer jargon.

Thanks.

Left click and hold on the taskbar (the thingy your icons are on), then drag it back down to where it belongs.

Gad, how simple. Many thanks for the information, much easier than doing a Restore. Really confused how this has just started happening. I've had the HP Pavillion Laptop with Vista for about 5-6 years now and just recently is the first time it has happened.

Thanks again, you'all are great.

After you get the task bar back where you want it, right click it and then left click "lock task bar" so you don't accidentally move it again.

Done, and appreciate that information. There are so many many things that can or should be done on these computers that it blows my mind.
