For those with a DirecTV AM-21 OTA tuner -

Can you use it when you don't have LOS or signal from the DirecTV satellites? Where does it get guide data from? Will it use the network connection from the HR-21?

We're in Alaska with no DirecTV, but I'm getting OTA broadcasts just fine. I'm currently recording some stuff on my iMac with eyeTV, but it would be nice to get it onto the DVRs connected to the big TV.

Thanks!

joe

If your receiver is capable of using the AM21 all of the information comes OTA and will appear in your DVR guide under the appropriate local channel numbers.

So it's only using the ATSC embedded program guide information? No other guide info from whatever provider they get the sat channel guide info from? That kinda sucks, since the embedded stuff only goes out 12 hours or less.

joe - I have an AM-21 on my home set. I just checked and I'm getting program guide info for the OTA channels through 7/16.

That's what I would expect if it's getting the info from DirecTV (via the sat or network connection). Still don't know what happens if you have network, but no DirectTV sat input.

Forgot to mention - my DVR is not connected to a network. So the program info is either OTA or from the satellite. Not connected to a phone line either...
