Anyone give up their fancy smart phone for a good old fashioned flip phone?

Just curious in this day and age of "Now", how many of you have given up the ability to be able to talk, text, post, and check email...and just go with a simple cell phone? Been thinking lately, with all the sources of data gadgets we have, maybe a computer on your desk, maybe an Ipad in your brief case...and your fancy smart phone.....got to thinking if it is really necessary to have all those features on your phone...Thoughts!!

Both of us resisted the smart phone for quite some time, then caved. We'd never go back to the flip now. We even dropped the land line several years ago! Together we have a laptop, 2 kindles, 2 ipads, & 1 some other tablet plus the 2 smart phones.

We don't miss them when we're out of service though... as long as we have books downloaded on the Kindles!

I've yet to get a smart phone and refuse to give up the old fashioned flip one.

I'm really pleasantly surprised by the initial answers! As the DW and I get closer to full timing the first of the year we hope....our Ipads with data, will be our internet connection for a long while...so i don;t really see the benefit of duplicating a lot of the same capability with a smart phone....

Same here. I had my old Virgin Mobile Oystr for ten years and just recently got a Verizon Samsung Gusto 3. I wouldn't mind having a smart phone but I have better things to spend my money on (unimportant things like food, shelter, and transportation) than a data plan.

We dumped our landlines at least 14yrs ago, we both have went back to flip phones. I really don't like carrying all of my info everywhere i go. This works for us.

Stock up on the flips because word from the major carriers are no flips in the near future.

I miss my Nextel i880!

For quick conversations nothing was or is faster than the direct connect.

Wife's I'd was 2 digits so press 2 digits then ptt and was working in less than a second.

Better footprint here than the other carriers then Sprint took over...

S4 works great but a smart phone is not really worth a hoot as a real phone unless you add headset or something as the mic and speaker are not in good place...not designed to be a phone.

Just about the same here. Funny, we resisted going to a smart phone for a long time. No way would I go back to a basic phone now. Land line was just wasted money.

My wife has a I-phone, and an I-pad. keeps her busy all day long. I have a simple phone I got from tracphone for $10.00. It ain't smart. All it does is make and receive calls. I put $30.00 of time on it a few months ago. I still have 150 min. and 275 days on it. Suits me fine.

Wow...there is so much you can do with a smartphone, other than talk.

Google maps with driving directions (one phone for everything you drive)
A camera, many times I take a photo of a oil filter, or serial # label. When working on the RV, I can take pictures of places where my head won't fit.

Even took a video of my AFI in action, put a FRS radio next to the phone so on the video i can narrate how much brake pedal I applied.

It can be a level, calculator, flashlight, and photo album .
Bought a $15 bluetooh ODBII code reader and can now read and clear DTC's.
AND don't forget, VOICE2TEXT.

Pay for your Starbucks coffee, track your auto expenses.

I think that once you go Smart, you will never go dumb
