To test mine, I went to an overpass with a posted known height, went into the settings and put the height of the RV as 6" higher than the overpass. I tried it with and without a route programmed in and it worked both ways, just didn't warn me until I was almost to the overpass.

I believe you can set that low clearance warning to alarm, distance wise. I have mine set at 2 miles. (I don't have the unit with me, or else I could tell you what screen that's on....)

On the screen where you set the alerts there's no listing for low-clearance. That is a change RM is working on.

Rand McNally just issued a latest update which includes better RV routing, enhanced warnings, better brightness, among others. It's now even better than before. But, you can't please all of the people all of the time. Like I stated, mine works great for me. I have had it since October '11 and have found no issues to speak of.
I just got the latest update, and there's still no provision for setting a distance for low-clearance alerts!

I know I set something for 2 miles, LOL!! I think age is setting in now because I could have sworn it was for the low clearances. I need to get this thing out of storage so I can see what the heck I did set!

I tested mine on overpass in my area that was marked 11' 9". I have gps height for rv set at 13' to be safe and got no warning. Then I went back over my notes from last years trip to the N.E. when we were traveling in New York on Alt US 20 Warsaw 0.3 miles East of NY 19 there is overpass marked 12'6" that the gps did not warn us of. I guess I will call Rand McNally again to see if anyone there can help.

I have used the 7710 from Florida to Alaska on a 14,000 mile 6 month trip and it routed me flawlessly. Even in Canada it routed me to my selected CG. It wasn't helpful on restriction routing. My MH is 45 feet long and 8.5 feet wide. I am warned that many states don't allow a vehicle of my size. I hope they fix the height warning. That would, for me, make it perect.
